Supporting Education

Advocate for high-quality, equitable, safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments for every child. Ensure students become career and college ready.

• Expand partnerships with local employers to provide students with hands-on training and apprenticeship opportunities. Support programs that prepare students for high-demand careers.

• Advocate for increased state funding to reduce reliance on local property taxes for school budgets.

• Partner with schools to expand access to mental health resources.

Education is the foundation of a thriving community. By investing in our schools, we’re not just preparing our children for the future—we’re building a stronger Sun Prairie for everyone.

Public Safety

Create safer neighborhoods by implementing practical solutions to address speeding, especially in residential areas. Prioritize community well-being and mental health and crisis resources.

• Improve visibility of existing, possibly faded or worn crosswalks.

• Install traffic-calming measures, such as crosswalks, and bump outs, where appropriate.

• Reduce police vacancies by supporting recruitment and retention efforts.

• Partner with community members to identify and address specific traffic safety concerns in their neighborhoods.

• Collaborate with schools, nonprofits, and local organizations to provide mental health support for youth and families.

Local Economic Growth

Encourage small business growth and entrepreneurship to revitalize under-developed areas, strengthen our local economy and create opportunities for residents.

• Simplify permitting and licensing processes to make it easier for small businesses to start and operate in Sun Prairie.

• Transform vacant or underutilized properties into vibrant commercial and mixed-use spaces.

• Encourage Residents to Shop Local to support Sun Prairie businesses.

• Support programs that provide training, mentorship, and funding for aspiring entrepreneurs.

• Partner with local employers, schools, and training programs to ensure residents have the skills needed for in-demand jobs.

• Promote Sun Prairie as a destination for tourism, highlighting attractions like local parks, events, and cultural amenities.

Voice for District 1

Strive to faithfully represent the will of District 1 residents, by working hard to communicate with and understand the priorities and preferences of residents and then take action to accomplish those priorities.

• Advocate for District 1 Priorities

• Open office hours to meet with residents.

• Host town halls to hear directly from residents about their concerns and ideas.

• Work with neighborhood associations to address hyper-local concerns, such as road repairs, park improvements, or traffic safety.

• Commit to responding to resident inquiries and concerns within 48 hours.

Building Community

Encourage community and opportunities that bring people together to strengthen connections.

• Support community centers as hubs for activities, classes, and gatherings for all ages

• Encourage neighborhood events, such as block parties and my favorite, potlucks, to foster relationships among neighbors.

• Promote cultural and arts events that celebrate Sun Prairie’s diversity and bring people together.

• Partner with local schools, libraries, and nonprofits to host family-friendly events and workshops.

• Develop mentorship programs that connect youth, seniors, and professionals to share skills and experiences.

• Promote community festivals and fairs that highlight local businesses, artists, and organizations.

Fiscal Responsibility

Maximize the impact of every dollar spent and eliminate wasteful expenditures. Find cost-effective ways to improve city services while ensuring responsible and efficient use of public funds.

• Transparent Budgeting

  • Advocate for a clear, accessible city budget that allows residents to see how their tax dollars are being spent.

  • Push for regular updates on budget performance and spending outcomes.

• Prioritize Long-Term Savings

  • Invest in energy-efficient infrastructure and sustainable practices to reduce long-term operating costs.

  • Support preventive maintenance for city facilities and equipment to avoid costly repairs down the line.

• Leverage State and Federal Funding

  • Actively pursue grants and funding opportunities to reduce reliance on local property taxes.

• Cost-Effective Service Delivery

  • Explore partnerships with neighboring communities to share services and reduce costs.

• Zero-Based Budgeting

  • Support a zero-based budgeting approach, where every city department justifies its expenses from scratch each year, rather than simply adjusting previous budgets.

  • This ensures taxpayer dollars are allocated based on current needs and priorities.

Sustainability

Promote renewable energy initiatives, and environmentally responsible policies to ensure a sustainable future for Sun Prairie.

• Protect and expand green spaces, parks, and tree canopies to improve air quality and provide natural habitats.

• Advocate for the installation of solar panels on municipal buildings, schools, and community centers to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.

• Encourage sustainable water management practices, such as rain gardens and permeable pavement, to reduce runoff and improve water quality.

• Support local food systems by promoting farmers' markets, community gardens, and urban agriculture initiatives.

• Develop a plan to reduce Sun Prairie’s carbon footprint while reducing energy costs.

Diversity & Protecting Constitutional Rights of Everyone.

As the husband of an immigrant and a teacher who cherishes every student in my classroom, I know firsthand how diversity strengthens our community. I am proud that we are such a welcoming and inclusive community. However, we still have work to do, too many neighbors including LGBTQ+, Black and Brown neighbors and immigrants still face discrimination. And now, more than ever, families live in fear of detention or deportation without due process, regardless of their status. This is a threat to the constitutional rights of all of us. These aren’t abstract issues; they’re about the people I love and the students I fight for every day.

How We’ll Make Progress:

• Listen to and Amplify Voices: Go out into the community and listen to all our neighbors, hold regular town halls and seek out and listen to black, Asian, Latino, LGBTQ+ leaders and community members to understand important issues, concerns and perspectives.

• Protect Constitutional Rights: Help all residents, especially immigrants or people who may be assumed to be immigrants, understand their constitutional rights, and how to respond if confronted by ICE or related agencies, to protect their constitutional rights and due process.

Sun Prairie thrives when everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered.
